So, I could give up, but I think I will forge on, even if the posts are short, or perhaps not very earth shattering. It's intimidating, there are a lot of amazing, talented, smart people out in the world, and the internet allows us to meet them all... and get overwhelmed by their gifts and dazzling abilities. What do I have to add to this? Not much really, but perhaps my particular voice might resonate with someone, and if that's one connection more than I had before, then I'm enriched, and hopefully they are too.
The other struggle has been to find a new body of work, something that speaks to others and communicates as only art can. My piece, 'Letters to a Daughter' seems to have struck a chord with many people, and has been a finalist in the ARC Salon, in the Still Life category, and received an award of excellence in a local arts event. Perhaps that's the question I can throw out, is this the direction to pursue? Continue within the Still Life genre, and try to create my own contemporary version?
So is the task any easier? I won't concern myself with inventing an utterly new style or approach, subject matter; just try to invent within what already exists. Creativity often needs a box. It's a place for me to start.
